HARRISONBURG, Va. - Ashley Casey, Nadia Valle and Sarah Kerns provided a balanced offense to push the Bridgewater College volleyball team to a 3-1 win over crosstown rival EMU on the road Thursday night.
The Eagles dropped the first set after a slow start and were out hit by Royals 1.63 to .111.
Bridgewater switched gears in the second set to hit a .324, their best set percentage of the match. Jessica Bissmeyer served five consecutive points that featured kills from Siena Naotala, Valle and Lauren Nofsinger to put the Eagles up 13-11. Finding themselves down 18-19, Hope Jennings separated the Eagles from Royals at the end of the set with strong serving and two kills from Casey to shift the momentum toward Bridgewater. Siena Naotala finished the set with a kill to even the match.
The Eagles continued to improve set-by-set. Grace Hayes served up two aces at the end of third to put Bridgewater up 24-17. Naotala once again finished the frame on a kill.
Finally finding their stride, Bridgewater held EMU to just 11 points in the final set to win the match 3-1.
Hayes drove the balanced offense recording with 38 assists along with 13 digs. Jyailah Friendly contributed 21 digs. Friendly, Hayes, Bissmeyer and Jennings all notched two service aces, and Naotala had zero attack errors on 15 attempts with nine kills.
Bridgewater returns a week from today when they travel to Virginia Wesleyan to face the defending ODAC Champions.
