Box Score MARVYILLE, Va. – The Bridgewater College women's soccer team fell 3-1 to Covenant on Friday afternoon.
The Scots got off to a hot start putting two scores on the board before the 15-minute mark. Bridgewater struck back quickly, and at the 19:36 mark made it a 2-1 game. Hanna Randolph made a good play to dribble past defenders, and on the cross, deflected it off an opponent and into the net.
The score remained 2-1 at the half, with BC outshooting Covenant 9-6, and a 1-1 tie in corners.
Bridgewater continued to pressure in the second half, and could've tied it with goals on two good chances in the final five minutes. Randolph hit the post in the 86th minute, and Lexi Winkler struck a shot at 89:39 that was saved by Lucy Sandhoff.
The Eagles outshot Covenant 18-8 and held a 4-2 advantage in corners. Covenant's goalkeeper Sandhoff made 10 saves in net, halting the Eagles hot offense. Skyler Daum was the top Eagles threat, producing five shots, and three that were saved. Randolph had three shots, while Ashley Sabatino and Alicia Keo each contributed two.
The loss puts the Eagles at a 2-1 record on the season. They will look to rebound tomorrow, Saturday Sept. 11, when they take on the Maryville Scots on day two of the Maryville Invitational.
