BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater College volleyball team swept visiting Hollins University on Friday night in Nininger Hall to open the ODAC season with a win.
Hope Jennings started the match strong with a seven-point service run. Bridgewater kept their foot on the gas, only letting Hollins score two consecutive points for the remainder of the set. Jennings bookended the opening frame with a kill for the 25-14 set win.
Lauren Nofsinger was the star from the service line in set two, serving 11 consecutive points in a stretch that featured three aces along with three kills from Jessica Bissmeyer. Again, the Eagles service game provided to be too much for the visitors as Jennings closed set two with an ace for the 25-9 set win.
Hollins took their first lead of the match in set three at 3-2 and held a two-point edge until 10-8. A five-point service run by Madeline Walker pushed Bridgewater out in front 14-10. The home team never looked back holding Hollins to just five points in the remainder of the set for the 25-14 win.
The Eagles dominated in all aspects of the game, hitting a .350 on the evening with eight service aces.
All 13 Eagles saw action in the ODAC opener with Jennings leading the way with nine kills followed by Bissmeyer with seven. Nofsinger and Sarah Kerns recorded five kills a piece, with Ashley Casey, Rachael Meyers and Lisa O'Grady each contributing three. Meyers and Kerns also contributed two blocks each. Ashley Rutherford and Bissmeyer both posted ten digs with Rutherford and Grace Hayes splitting settting duties.
Bridgewater, now 4-5 on the year, returns to action tomorrow when they travel to Ferrum for a tri-match with the Panthers and the Generals of Washington & Lee. Live stats will be available for both matches with a live stream during the Bridgewater vs. Ferrum match only.
