Eagles Blanked Twice in Tri Match

BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- The Bridgewater College volleyball team hosted a tri-match in Nininger Hall on Saturday, falling to Randolph-Macon, 3-0, and to No. 3 Juniata, 3-0.

The Eagles move to 14-10 on the season with an 8-2 mark in ODAC play. R-MC goes to 15-4 and also boasts an 8-2 record in league play. Meanwhile, Juniata stands at 20-1 after a pair of nonconference matches on Saturday. 

In the first match of the day, Randolph-Macon bested Bridgewater, 25-22, 25-22, 25-19, to win in straight sets. Rachael Meyers, Kylie Robinson and Faith DePew each finished with five kills, while Gabby Atwell and Ashley Casey each pitched in three kills. Ashley Rutherford finished with 12 assists, while Grace Hayes had nine.

Defensively, Sophia Stites led the team with 14 digs. Hayes and DePew each had eight in the loss. On the nets, Sarah Kerns and Atwell each put down four assisted blocks as DePew and Meyers had solo blocks.

Juniata defeated Bridgewater 25-19, 25-18, 25-17 to close out the day in Nininger Hall. For the Eagles, Lisa O'Grady, Rutherford, Meyers and DePew all had a team-high four kills. Rutherford also led the team with 15 assists in the loss.

Grace Williams and Stites registered 10 digs, while Robinson finished with seven to go with her two kills. Meyers had a pair of solo blocks, while O'Grady pitched in a solo stop and an assisted block.

The Eagles are back on the court on Wednesday, Oct. 19, as they head to Randolph for a 6 pm start.
