Eagles Downed by No. 15 Hornets

WINCHESTER, Va. -- The Bridgewater College field hockey team faced its second straight nationally-ranked opponent as it dropped a 6-2 contest to No. 15 Shenandoah, on the road, on Wednesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Hornets got the first scoring chances of the game and eventually placed a shot behind the BC goalie in the 10th minute by Cassidy Morrison.
  • In the second quarter, SU slotted a pair of shots home to take a 3-0 lead that held to halftime. 
  • Shenandoah added another goal just over 10 minutes into the second half to go ahead 4-0. Meredyth Rankin got the Eagles on the board off a penalty corner to set the score at 4-1 with just under two minutes to go in the third frame. 
  • The home side scored a fifth goal in the 50th minute of the contest to set the score at 5-1. The Eagles earned a penalty corner opportunity a few minutes later that led to a shot from Daphne Daymude that was blocked. The ball found the stick of Rankin who's shot found the back of the net, 5-2. The Hornets tallied one more goal before the end of the match to take a 6-2 victory.
MATCH STATS
  • Rankin was the only goal scorer for the Eagles with Daymude recording a pair of assists in the loss.
  • Klingler registered a shot and a defensive save with the team tallying three shots on the night. 
  • Madalyn Miller got the start in the net and made 10 saves, while Taylor Swann let in both shots on goal that she faced.
UP NEXT
Bridgewater returns to the turf on Friday, October 21, as it hosts Virginia Wesleyan as a part of Homecoming Weekend at BC. The game is scheduled for a 7 pm start.
