Men's Basketball Downs Lancaster Bible

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater men's basketball team picked up its second win in as many days with a 59-56 victory over Lancaster Bible on Saturday.

The Basics

Final Score: Bridgewater, 59, Lancaster Bible 56
Records: Bridgewater 2-1, Lancaster Bible 1-1

How It Happened
  • The Eagles jumped ahead early taking a 13-2 advantage under six minutes in after a Mikey Ayala layup stretched the lead. The Chargers would go on a run of their own to close the lead down to 15-12 before Aaron Oates grabbed a rebound and put it back up and in to stretch the lead back to five.
  • After trailing by 11 early, the Chargers stayed within striking distance and with 10 seconds left in the half nailed a three-pointer to make it just a one point difference at 26-25 in favor of BC.
  • Andy Pack scored the opening bucket of the second half just over 30 seconds in, but that would be the only Bridgewater field goal for over eight minutes. Lancaster Bible did not only taking the lead, but stretched it out to as much as 11 before Landon Hawes knocked down a jumper from long range to spark a BC run of three straight from beyond the arc including another three-pointer from Hawes pulling the Eagles back to within two.
  • Out of a time out the Chargers stopped the run on a Seth Beers layup to make it a four point game. Oates followed that up with another second chance bucket and Alec Topper tied the game at 42-42 on the next possession. The Eagles momentarily took the lead with 7:23 to play when Will Dunlap nailed a three-pointer from the corner but Lancaster Bible responded with one of their own from beyond the arc to retake the lead 46-45.
  • Hawes continued his great second half with buckets on back-to-back possessions to put the Eagles in front 50-48 with five minutes to play. The Chargers retook the lead by a single point on a free throw with just under two minutes left. On the next possession, Topper knocked down a midrange jumper to give BC a 57-56 lead and the Eagles did not trail from that point on making a defensive stop and Hawes nailed two free throws to close it out.
