Men's Basketball Falls in Final Regular Season Road Contest

WINCHESTER, Va. – The Bridgewater College men's basketball team dropped their final road contest of the regular season at Shenandoah on Wednesday night by a final score of 84-74.

The Basics

  • Final Score: Bridgewater 74, Shenandoah 84
  • Records: Bridgewater (9-14, 5-10 ODAC), Shenandoah (4-20, 3-12)

How It Happened

  • The Eagles fell behind early 6-0 before an Alec Topper three cut the advantage to 6-3. Shenandoah then went on a 13-5 run to take 19-8 edge
  • Following the SU run, BC went on a 17-7 run of their own, going 6-for-7 from the field in a five-minute stretch to cut the lead to just one point at 35-34.
  • Liam Caswell and Topper teamed up for 13 of the Eagles points in the run with Caswell going 6-for-7 in the half. Despite the Eagles coming back from down as much as 11 points in the half, the Hornets ended the frame going 3-for-4 from the field to enter the half up 41-36
  • Jalen Curtis started the second half for BC with a floating jumper to cut the Hornets advantage to three. Following Curtis' shot, the Eagles went nearly five minutes without a basket until a Shod Smith dunk at the 15-minute mark
  • The Hornets matched their largest lead of the game with another 11-point advantage at 53-42 before a Zach Hatter three pointer and Caswell fast break layup on a pass from Smith quickly trimmed the lead to six at 53-47. The Eagles created a new game on a Hatter three to bring the score to 56-56 with just under nine minutes to go
  • Shenandoah slowly separated themselves in the final minutes of the contest, taking another 11-point lead at 74-63. The Eagles could not catch up for the third time in the contest, falling on the road 84-74

Match Notes

  • Caswell had a career high 20 points with four rebounds followed by Smith and Hatter with 17 each. Topper posted 16 points as the fourth Eagle in double figures
  • Smith notched his second career double-double with a career high 12 rebounds to go with seven assists and two steals
  • Bridgewater made nine three pointers compared to the Hornets three
  • Shenandoah won the rebounding battle, grabbing 43 boards compared to the Eagles 27 with 17 of them being on the offensive side of the ball

  • The Eagles will conclude the regular season on Saturday, February 19 when they host Roanoke at 2:00 p.m. in Nininger Hall. The team will honor seniors Fletcher Jackson and student manager Samari Eppinger prior to the game and recognize the 1988 Team of Distinction at half time.
