ASHLAND, Va. - The Bridgewater College women's tennis team came up just short to Randolph Macon falling 6-3 in its opening ODAC match on Friday evening.

Bridgewater fell behind early as the Yellow Jackets swept doubles action leaving BC down 3-0 heading to singles play.

The Eagles did not let that slow them down, they came out swinging in singles play with battles all the way through the ladder. 

Senior Emily Daigneault was first off at the No. 3 spot with a 6-3, 7-5 win to put BC on the board.

Junior Emma Nesselrodt was next off the court, overcoming a set deficit against her former school 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 4 spot to make the match score 3-2. 

Freshman Grace Knighton also was stuck in a battle at the No. 6 spot, but fell 2-6, 4-6 to put the Yellow Jackets closer to clinching the match.

Junior Malena Hoover fought at the top spot, dropping the opening set 2-6. Hoover forced a decider with a 6-4 win in the second set, ultimately falling short in a third set tiebreak 6-7(4).

Graduate student Rachel Crawford battled but fell short in a third set 6-1, 2-6, 5-7 at the second flight.

Sophomore Ryan Roeber picked up a 7-6(4), 7-6(4) victory for BC's third and final point of the match.

The Eagles will be back in action on Sunday, March 13 when they make the trip to Hollins. First serve is set for 2:00 p.m.
