BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater College softball team split a non-conference doubleheader with Marymount on Tuesday at Fulk Field.

Game One

The Basics

• Final Score: Bridgewater 3, Marymount 8
• Records: Bridgewater (9-8), Marymount (7-8)

How It Happened

• The Saints exploded for five runs in the top of the first inning to take a quick 5-0 edge and force an early BC pitching change. Sarah Wimer responded for the Eagles in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI single to send Hannah Mahan home and put a run on the board for Bridgewater
• Marymount tacked on three more runs in the next frame to take an 8-1 lead
• Torie Shifflett started the third inning with a single to center field and crossed home on another Wimer RBI single to center field to make it 8-2. Wimer would add her third RBI of the day to bring Shifflett home once again for the third Eagle run of the day
• Neither team would score in the final three frames with the Saints holding on for the win 

Match Notes

• Wimer, the current ODAC Player of the Week, posted three hits to go with her three RBI followed by Shifflett and Thomas with two
• Kearston Bruce earned her first start, allowing five runs on five hits. Samantha Martin pitched the final six innings, allowing seven hits and three runs

Game Two

The Basics

• Final Score: Bridgewater 9, Marymount 8 (8 innings)
• Records: Bridgewater (10-8), Marymount (7-9)

How It Happened

• Once again, the Saints got on the board first with an RBI double to right center in the top of the second to take a 1-0 edge. Bridgewater responded quickly in the bottom half of the inning on a Shifflett single to center field to send Brooklynn Fridley and Thomas home for a 2-1 advantage
• Marymount poured on four runs in innings three and four to take a 5-2 advantage. Fridley started the bottom of the fourth with a single before Shifflett followed it up with one of her own. Jazmyne Smith put the Eagles within two on an RBI double to center field before the Saints walked Wimer. A Marymount throwing error then tied the game, sending Smith and Wimer home
• The teams would trade runs all through the seventh, forcing extra innings. With runners on first and second with one out, Savannah Painter worked her way through the next two batters to leave Marymount with a run added in the eighth. Smith hit her third double of the day to start the bottom half of the inning for BC. She would cross home and secure the victory on a Wimer sacrifice fly

Match Notes

• Kaitlyn Tirona posted four RBIs followed by Shifflett with two
• Smith posted a career high four hits while Shifflett added three and Avery Pinder and Fridley contributing two
• Emma Killion pitched three innings, allowing seven hits and four runs while striking out two. Erica Nelson pitched two innings for BC, allowing five hits. Savannah Painter earned her first career win, allowing one hit and no runs
