BERKLEY SPRINGS, W.Va. -- The Bridgewater College women's golf team had its season-opener reduced to eighteen holes when the final round of the Shenandoah Fall Invitational was rained out.
Â
The Eagles were sitting just three shots behind Marymount University and were looking forward to contending for an early-season win, but had to settle for second-place due to the weather. "Opening with a 315 was a good sign," said head coach
John Rogers. "We graduated our number two scorer from the spring, so you always enter the next season wondering who will step up. To shoot this kind of score suggests we can maintain the strong scores we saw last year. It's a shame we did not get to chase Marymount today, but we will see them again in a couple weeks at our home event."
Â
Sophia Martone fired a 76 yesterday to claim a share of 2nd among 45 players. This was the sixth time she has finished in the top-2 in her short career.
Â
Shaina Beach (79) and
Savannah Scott (79) tied for 5th, while
Madolin Neff (81) rallied on the back nine to finish 8th.
Emily Price (87) earned a top-20 finish in her first collegiate event, and
Kaitlyn Gaeth (90) finished 21st.
Â
The Eagles return to action at the Bridgewater Invitational on September 26.
