WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The Bridgewater College women's golf team brought their fall competition to a close today at The Melee, playing at Fords Colony Golf Club in the second and final round Monday afternoon.
The course was a challenging test and with it came high winds. The Eagles added five strokes to their 348 total and finished in sixth as a team in a field of eight teams. Drew took the lead spot and claimed the win.
In the second round, Hannah Rizzo again provided the lowest score for the Eagles with an 82. Rizzo finished with a top-five finish and her second consecutive top-five result.
Emily Price repeated her 84 first round score in the second round to tie for ninth place in a two-way tie. Price faced putts that scraped the edge throughout the round and was able to finish with one-putt par on the hardest hole.
Freshmen Addy Sweet and Iyana Smith provided the 3rd and 4th score with a 28th and 29th place result.
"On a very difficult course and under tough conditions, we had a tough time avoiding the big numbers, which makes success in stroke play difficult," said assistant golf coach Mike Clark. "Experienced players Emily and Hannah have both shown that they can compete and at high levels in the ODAC; the competitiveness is there. The young freshmen have shown in multiple moments that they can make Bridgewater very competitive in the ODAC, as a team we will have to find consistency over 18 and 36 holes going into the spring."
Despite the inconsistent stroke play and battling tough conditions, coach Clark is appreciative of the resiliency from the women's team this fall.
The women will be back in action in the spring.
