WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The first round of the women's golf ODAC tournament got underway on the Yorktown course at Williamsburg National Golf Club as Bridgewater College ended day 1 in fifth place among nine teams Sunday.  

The Eagles as a team scored a 339 (+51) after the first 18 holes in the three-day tournament for the championship. Bridgewater held a 10-stroke lead over Averett with a strong back nine despite windy conditions and stood 13 strokes back from Va. Wesleyan in fourth.  

In the player leaderboard, Hannah Rizzo led the way for the Eagles after the first round with a score of 81 (+9) to take 17th place. Rizzo executed on 11 holes to remain even at par, although stumbled on No. 4 and No. 7 with a double bogey. Five holes also required Rizzo to sink an extra stroke above par.  

Addy Sweet placed as the second scorer for the Eagles carding an 84 (+12) for 20th place. Although a shaky three-hole stretch with double bogey, Sweet remained steady for 10 holes at par. Emily Price was the third scorer and was the only Eagle to card a birdie. Price carded an 85 and took 21st place. Iyana Smith followed next with an 89 and 27th place and Sarah Maggi rounded out the lineup as the drop score. 

"I'm really proud of how the girls showed up today. Their energy and attitudes were outstanding and they came ready to compete. We need to build on that and if we can make a few birdies, I'm excited to see what the team can accomplish," said Head Coach Nick Schlickenrieder. 

No. 8 ranked Washington and Lee held the top spot after day 1 with a three-stroke advantage over second-place finisher, Randolph-Macon. Washington and Lee's Toral Bhatt scored even at par for first place to lead by one stroke.  

The second round resumes tomorrow morning at the Yorktown course at Williamsburg National Golf Club.
