BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- The Bridgewater College volleyball team dropped a 3-1 contest to Marymount in nonconference action in Nininger Hall on Tuesday night.
THE BASICS
Final score: Marymount 3, Bridgewater 1 (23-25, 25-19, 25-17)
Records: Bridgewater 5-4; Marymount 3-5
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Saints stretched out an early 5-2 advantage before a run from the Eagles cut the lead down to 7-6. Marymount scored the next three points but BC responded with seven of the next nine points to tie the game, 12-12, on a service ace by Grace Williams. The Eagles eventually took the lead after back-to-back Saints errors and went up 17-15 after an overpass dropped in for a Madeline Walker kill. Neither side gained a discernable advantage for the rest of the set until a 5-1 run for BC ended with a Rachael Meyers kill to win the set, 25-23.
- Marymount came out strong in the second set winning eight of the first 10 points to take a commanding 8-2 lead early. The Eagles were able to work that deficit down to 13-9 but the Saints kept an advantage throughout before winning the game 25-19 to tie the match at one set apiece.
- The third set was much of the same as the second game as Marymount controlled the pace of play taking a 14-6 lead after a run of eight-straight points. The two sides alternated scores until the Eagles rallied for four straight of their own to cut the lead to 19-14. The Saints held on for a 25-20 set win to take a 2-1 match lead.
- Seven straight points for the Saints gave them a 9-5 advantage to force a Bridgewater timeout early on in the set. The Crimson & Gold eventually battled back to a 19-16 deficit after an Ashley Rutherford kill, but Marymount garnered six of the last seven points to win the set and the match.
