FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- The Bridgewater College volleyball team fell to Mary Washington, 3-0, in nonconference action on Friday night.

Records: Bridgewater 8-6; Mary Washington 10-3

HOW IT HAPPENED

• UMW opened the game with the first five points forcing a timeout by the Eagles early on. Mary Washington extended the lead out to as many as eight points, 12-4, before BC was able to work the lead down to 14-10 coming off a kill by Sarah Kerns. Mary Washington stayed in control of the set and earned a 25-16 win to go up 1-0 in the match.
• The home side forced another early timeout from the Eagles after picking up six of the first eight points in the second set. Bridgewater got a pair of kills out of the timeout from Lisa O'Grady and Faith DePew. The set remained close as both sides exchanged scores until UMW was able to run together nine of the last 13 points to take the set 25-15.
• Mary Washington scored eight of the first 10 points in the final set to take an 8-2 lead. The lead extended to 11-3 as the Eagles controlled the game and eventually took the set and the match, 25-14 and 3-0.

MATCH STATS

• DePew led BC with seven kills, while Ashley Casey finished with six of her own. Lauren Nofsinger downed four kills on a .375 hitting percentage.
• Grace Hayes paced the team with 11 assists as Ashley Rutherford finished with eight.
• Sophia Stites led the Eagles with 14 digs, while Emma Anderson and Hayes each had eight digs. 
• Rachael Meyers finished with a pair of block assists.
