FAIRFAX, Va. -- The Bridgewater College men's and women's indoor track & field teams kicked off The Patriot Games, hosted by George Mason, on Friday evening.
Aaron Moon and
Trey Birchett highlighted the two teams with their competition in the heptathlon as Moon leads the pack after the completion of the first four events.
Moon and Birchett started off in the 60-meter dash as Moon topped the field with a time of 7.20 seconds to earn 813 points. Birchett finished third in 7.38 seconds, just one hundredth of a second behind second place for 752 points. In the long jump, Moon shined again with a top mark of 6.74 meters. while Birchett again came in third. Birchett came in second in the shot put, followed by Moon, while the duo went one-two in the high jump as Moon set a new collegiate best mark by clearing 1.89 meters. Through four events of the seven-event series, Moon sits on top with 2708 points, while Birchett is in third with 2421 points. The duo will finish out the multi event with the 60m hurdles, pole vault and 1,000-meter run on Saturday.
In addition,
Anthony Cadle and
Gabriel Miller each competed in the 5000-meter run with Cadle finishing the race in 15:43.17, while Miller crossed the finish line in 16:21.93. Cadle's time slots him 10th in the program's history in the event.
On the women's side,
Ashley Dodd and
Elena Larcombe were the lone Eagles in competition on the opening evening of the two-day event. The duo both ran the 5000m and finished in 21:28.00 and 24:30.80, respectively.Â
The Eagles return to action tomorrow morning beginning at 10 am for the final day of The Patriot Games.
