ARLINGTON, Va. – The Bridgewater College volleyball team competed in a road tri-match Saturday afternoon beating Marywood 3-0 and Marymount 3-2.
Match One
THE BASICS
Final Score: Bridgewater 3, Marywood 0 (25-15, 25-10, 25-15)
Records: Bridgewater 21-5, Marywood 8-20
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Bridgewater rolled out to an early 11-3 advantage with Reagan Stoop and Faith DePew being vital on the attack. Grace Williams served up an ace to put the Eagles up 15-6, but Marywood countered with a run of five cutting the deficit to four, 15-11. A huge block from Rachael Meyers and Ashley Rutherford sparked four more points, 19-11. BC took the set 25-15 with a Brooklyn Williams kill.
- Early in the second set, Rutherford put together two consecutive service aces to put Bridgewater up 5-2. Gabby Atwell started a 6-0 run a couple plays later to increase the Eagles' lead 12-4. Late in the set Stoop issued three consecutive kills to push the team over the 20-point mark. The Pacer attack was held to just 10 points as BC leaped out to a 2-0 match advantage.
- The final set saw Bridgewater bust out to a massive 10-0 lead which saw multiple attacks from the Eagle six. Midway through the set, Brooklyn Williams and Stoop pushed BC to the 15-point mark with the team leading 15-6. Bridgewater closed out the set in dominating fashion taking the set 25-15 and getting the sweep 3-0.
MATCH STATS
- Stoop led the way offensively totaling 12 kills on a .300 hitting percentage, while also racking up eight digs. DePew and Brooklyn Williams both had five kills.
- Rutherford accumulated 15 assists in the match while Vivi Liquorie followed with five.
- Madeline Walker led the way defensively digging the ball 10 times.
- Meyers recorded three blocks (one solo) to lead the Eagles.
- BC recorded 33 kills on the afternoon compared to Marywood's 11.
Match Two

Final Score: Bridgewater 3, Marymount 2 (23-25, 25-21, 25-15, 20-25, 15-13)
Records: Bridgewater 22-5, Marymount 13-13
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first set saw Bridgewater rocket out to a 6-1 lead with multiple attack errors coming from the Marymount attack. The Saints knotted the score at seven, but the Eagles put together a 5-0 run that was capped off by a shared block from Atwell and Brooklyn Williams making the score 12-7. Marymount took its first lead of the match, 16-15, following a service ace. The two teams traded leads three times up to 20-points with Stoop firing a kill to put BC up 20-19. Meyers scored the final point on an assist from Rutherford, with Marymount going on a 3-0 run to take the set 25-23.
- Throughout the start of the second set, the two teams went back-and-forth with one another until a Saints' service error and Stoop kill put Bridgewater up 10-8. The Eagles scored three more points to give the team a four-point advantage, 13-9. DePew got BC to 20-points with a service ace. Marymount was able to tie the score up at 21, but Bridgewater held down the net recording three consecutive blocks to help win the set 25-21.
- The Eagles led 7-3 through the first 10 points of the third set, but the Saints were able to score four-points to tie it up. Midway through the set Rutherford and Stoop helped on the offensive to put BC up 16-13. Bridgewater closed out the set on a 9-2 run to take the 2-1 match advantage.
- The two teams were deadlocked at five through the start of the fourth set until DePew and Meyers recorded kills to give the Eagles a 9-8 advantage. With the score knotted at 11, Marymount pulled out a 4-1 run to go up midway through the set. With the score even at 20 late in the set, the Saints issued a 5-0 run to force the game deciding match five.
- Marymount got out to a 4-2 lead, but BC capitalized on the Saints' attack errors to take over 5-4. DePew and Stoop helped to increase the lead to four, 9-5, following successful attacks from both players. Marymount tried to mount a comeback, but Bridgewater closed out the set with a Stoop kill to win the 15-13 and take the match 3-2.
MATCH STATS
- Stoop passed 400 kills on the season totaling 17 in the match, while Meyers recorded 11 on an impressive .435 hitting percentage and DePew rounded out with nine.
- Sophia Stites registered 23 digs in the match, Stoop picked up 17 and Rutherford also had double-digits with 15.
- Atwell registered 12 blocks (one solo), Brooklyn Williams chipped in five while Stoop put up four.
- Rutherford paced the team in assists picking up 35 in the five-set match.
