SALEM, Va. – The Bridgewater College volleyball team concluded its regular season with a win at Roanoke 3-1 on Thursday evening
THE BASICS
Final Score: Bridgewater 3, Roanoke 1 (24-26, 25-21, 25-18, 25-16)
Records: Bridgewater 23-5 (10-2 ODAC), Roanoke 14-11 (7-5 ODAC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first set saw Roanoke lead 6-4 through the first ten points in the match until the Eagles put together a run of four later to go up two, 9-7. Reagan Stoop started another brief run midway through these to give BC a 13-10 advantage. The Maroons strung together a long run of six capitalizing on Bridgewater attacking errors to go up 18-14. The Eagles fought back tying the score up at 18 with a shared block from Gabby Atwell and Faith DePew. Roanoke was up 23-20 late in the set but Stoop and Rachael Meyers helped on the attack to tie the score up once again. The Maroons were able to hang on and take the set 26-24.
- In the second set BC pulled out to an early 5-1 lead following a service ace from libero Sophia Stites. The offense did not stop there as Meyers fired in a kill to give Bridgewater 10-points and lead by three. The Eagles led by one point midway through the set, when DePew started a momentous run of two to give the team some breathing room, 18-15. Roanoke attempted a comeback but fell short to the dominate BC attack tying the match at one win apiece.
- The Maroons started off with the lead in the third set getting out to a 7-4 advantage over Bridgewater, but the Eagles fired back with a run of six to take the lead 10-7. An abundance of attacks came midway in the set as BC doubled its lead 18-9. Stoop capped off the set swinging three successful attacks to take the set 25-18.
- The final set saw BC open the gates to a 7-4 lead following a Stoop kill and DePew kept the offense going with another attack to increase the score 10-7. Midway through the set Atwell picked up a huge, shared block with Brooklyn Williams and a kill to help Bridgewater get to a 17-11 lead. The Eagles were dominate the rest of the way taking the match 3-1 and increasing the win streak to 14 games.
MATCH STATS
- Stoop led the way offensively and defensively for BC recording her 16th kill/dig double-double with 17 kills and 16 digs.
- DePew swung an impressive .524 hitting percentage while also recording 14 kills. Meyers ended her night racking up seven kills.
- Ashley Rutherford had a big night successfully assisting on attacks 39 times to go along with four kills and seven digs.
- Brooklyn Williams held down the net with five total blocks.
- Stites chipped in nine digs in the match while Grace Williams registered six along with three of the 11 team service aces.

Bridgewater awaits the finalization of the ODAC schedule to find out the final seedings of the ODAC Tournament. The ODAC Tournament quarterfinals are set to begin on Tuesday, Nov. 7.
