SALEM, Va – The Bridgewater men's track and field team kicked off the first day of ODAC Indoor Track and Field Championships with a strong showing as a team.
Kyle Clanton got things started for the Eagles grabbing second place in the long jump with a leap of 6.98 meters (22' 10 ¾"). This jump set a new personal best for Clanton and placed him fifth all-time in Bridgewater men's long jump history. Fellow Eagles
Aaron Moon and
Anthony Matthews also finished fourth and eighth grabbing points for the Eagles.
In the High jump Moon, Connor Mackey and
Trey Birchett all brought home points for the Eagles. Moon jumped a height of 1.90m (6'2 ¾") while Mackey and Birchett both jumped 1.85m (6'0 ¾"). All three Eagles set new personal records in the event.
Continuing with the All-ODAC honors,
Mike Smith and
Peter Fulton grabbed second and third in the men's weight throw. Smith's best mark of the day was 18.07m while Fulton's was a heave of 17.38m. Tony Nesselrodt also grabbed points for the Eagles setting a new PR with a toss of 15.37m as did
Jake McNutt with a throw of 14.51m. McNutt Moved up to ninth in the Eagles all-time list for weight throw.
On the track, the Eagles continued to break records as the duo of Clanton and Moon both qualified for the 60m finals. Clanton finished with a time of 6.93 moving him to seventh all-time and Moon finished with a time of 6.95m slotting him eighth all time. Both Eagles set personal best with their respective times.
Moon also earned a spot in the 60m Hurdle finals running a time of 8.77 and set his new PR in the process.
In the Distance Medley, the team of
Bowen Varney, Cy Aldermen,
Ryder Rose and Bennet Cupps picked up points for the Eagles finishing fourth with a time of 10:46.17.
The Eagles head into day two of ODAC Indoor Track and Field Championships sitting in second with a total of 45 points. Competition resumes tomorrow morning at 11 a.m.
