WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – For a second straight weekend, a Bridgewater College men's track & field record was set as
Michael Smith broke the team's weight throw mark as the Eagles kicked off competition in the Camel City Invite, at the JDL Fast Track, on Friday.
Smith, who had set a new personal best earlier this season, broke
Peter Fulton's weight throw record that he set just six days ago at the Patriot Games. Smith finished second with a top throw of 18.41 meters (60' 4.75") in a field of nearly 30 throwers. Right behind him was Fulton who took third with a throw of 18.02 meters (59' 1.5").
Jake McNutt also took 15th in the event with a heave of 13.43 meters (44' 0.75").
The new school record mark ranks as the second-best throw in the region this season as well as inside the top 10 in all of Division III. It stands at seventh in the nation.
Also in field events,
Aaron Moon took 19th in the long jump with a best mark of 6.30 meters (20' 8.0"), while
Easton Repko hit a high of 4.10 meters (13' 5.25") in the pole vault for ninth place.
Kyle Clanton nearly missed out on the 60-meter dash finals by running his prelim heat in 7.08 seconds, while
Da'Shawn Wilson and
Ben Baker ran the 400-meter dash and
Cy Alderman and Baker both ran the 200m as well.
The Eagles close out the Camel City Invite tomorrow morning.
