Women's Lacrosse Falls to Randolph-Macon

ASHLAND, Va. -- The Bridgewater College women's lacrosse team fell to Randolph-Macon, 22-12, in ODAC action at Day Field on Wednesday night. 

THE BASICS

Records: 8-5, 3-1 ODAC; Randolph-Macon 7-6, 3-1 ODAC

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Yellow Jackets struck first as Emma Moxham netted an unassisted score just over a minute into the game. Lauren Roberts got her first of four goals at the 12:41 mark to tie the game. R-MC strung three goals together to take a 4-1 lead with nine and a half minutes left in the first. Roberts got one back, but the home side responded right away to re-take a three goal lead. Caris Cianelli got on the board after a pass from Aunnie Hacker with just 35 seconds on the clock to get the Eagles within two, but the Yellow Jackets scored twice in the last 25 seconds of the quarter to take a 7-3 lead after one.
  • Roberts scored twice to start off the second quarter as Kaity Petersheim and Madeline Magill joined in on the scoring run as the Eagles tied the game at 7-7. Amanda Maxwell put Randolph-Macon back in front, but Ashley Venit scored off an assist from Grace Pietro to tie it once again. The Yellow Jackets broke the game open with six-straight goals to close out the half and take a 14-8 lead into the break.
  • Cianelli got the only goal of the third quarter for the Eagles as the home side outscored BC 4-1 in the period. Petersheim started off the fourth with a goal to make the score 18-10, but Randolph-Macon scored two in a row to take a 20-10 lead. Jenna Entsminger scored a man-up goal and Magill was able to get another goal in the net as the home team held on to a 22-12 win.
GAME STATS
  • Roberts led the Eagles with four goals, while Cianelli and Petersheim each had three points on two goals and an assist each. 
  • Magill had two goals, while Venit and Entsminger each had one. Hacker and Pietro also had assists in the loss.
  • Roberts led the team with six draw controls, while Rachael Robinson led the team with five ground balls. Petersheim and Julia Frick each snagged two, while Robinson, Petersheim, Frick, Cianelli, Hacker, Emily Dell and Olivia Lawrence all had a caused turnover.
  • Robinson made 11 saves in the loss, while Emma Taylor pushed aside six shots 
  • Randolph-Macon outshot Bridgewater 36-25 and had a 15-14 edge in ground balls. The Yellow Jackets also paced the Eagles in draw controls 21-15.
