YORK, Pa. -- The Bridgewater College women's golf team closed out its final regular season competition with the "B" team finishing in fourth place at the Spartan Invitational, hosted by York.
"We really can't be disappointed in a respectable result when we played without our top scorer, but today also exposed a couple small leaks in the boat that we will need to plug before we get the the championship," said head coach
John Rogers.
Monday's second round presented tougher conditions at Regents Glen that the opening day of competition. Scoring was tougher throughout the field and saw Bridgewater shoot a 346, which was 16 strokes more than yesterday, but many other teams saw their scores rise by much more on the day.
The Eagles finished in fourth with a two-day total of 676 while York, which hosted the event, finished with a 650 to top the leaderboard. Lynchburg and Alvernia rounded out the top three teams.
Savannah Scott shot an 80 to finish in fifth place. She finished the regular season with six top 10's out of seven competitions and four of those being top five places. Monday proved to be one of her steadier tournaments with only two holes above a bogey and was able to manage her tee ball well during the two-day event.
Madolin Neff took ninth after carding an 84 on Monday. Similar to Scott, she concluded her senior season with four top 10's out of seven competitions played. Despite not managing her tee ball well, she still played a solid tournament overall. Neff dropped in eight pars and a birdie on the day.
After getting off to a slow start,
Shaina Beach had a stretch of five-straight holes played at even par. She finished the second round with a 91. Like Beach,
Kaitlyn Gaeth also registered a 91 on Monday. She was able to mostly continue her solid stretch of play that has eclipsed the last several tournaments, but two errant shots led to a pair of triple bogeys.
Evelyn Hunter was the lone Eagle to improve her score on the event's final day as she finished with a 93. She worked on her driver on the range and felt good about the results on the course. Hunter mentioned that she enjoyed being in the starting line up and even got to see her grandfather in the gallery, who was her inspiration to play golf.
The Eagles are back in action for the ODAC Championship beginning on April 28. The event is a three-day, 54-hole tournament that will be played at the Old Trail Golf Club in nearby Crozet, Virginia.
