GREENSBORO, N.C. - Monday at the ODAC Golf Championships saw continued excellent weather, but only three of the eleven conference teams improved on their scoring from the first round, and there was very little movement on the leaderboard. The Bridgewater team shot 315 in the second round and remained in ninth place.
Â
Max Bondurant led the way Monday with his second straight 76. Just like Sunday, he was +2 through two holes and then went the rest of the way in just two more strokes over par. The sophomore made fourteen pars coming in, and he is tied for 6th in par-3 scoring in the field of sixty players (E). Overall he sits in a tie for 22nd.
Â
Freshman
Brandon Washburn spent an extra forty five minutes on the practice green after his first round, and the effort paid off as he made several clutch par-saves during the second round. He was not pleased with his ball-striking, but managed to shave one stroke on a day when scoring was generally higher. His 79 featured a stretch of seven holes in the middle of the round played at +1.
Â
Freshman
Jack Thome made the biggest improvement for the Eagles from round one to round two, fighting through an injury to shoot 80. He played the final twelve holes at just +4 and made no worse than a bogey.
Â
Junior
Hayden Hawes provided an 80 to round out the team score of 315. He played steadily throughout the round, scrambling well, but dropped four strokes on the final four holes to get to his final number.
Â
Sophomore
Logan Douthat led the Eagles on Sunday, but had three double bogeys on Monday and ended up with an 83.Â
Â
Head coach,
John Rogers, expressed surprise at the tougher scoring conditions during the second round at Forest Oaks (Greensboro, NC). "I'm not sure why we, and most of the teams, had a tough time making a move today. We just never got any momentum," he said. "It was a beautiful day for golf, and the second round has typically been our strongest, but our team number went the wrong way this time. Hopefully we can make up some ground tomorrow."
Â
Despite posting a score nine strokes higher than their first round, the Quakers from Guilford (#5 nationally) hold a four stroke lead over W&L (#10). Pierce Robinson (W&L) leads the individual race at -10 total.
Â
For the second straight day, the Eagles will lead the tournament off the first tee, at 8:30 Tuesday morning.
