OWINGS MILLS EAST, Md. -- The Bridgewater College field hockey team dropped a close 2-1 contest at Stevenson on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Mustangs got the first scoring chance of the afternoon as Emma Gladstein put a shot in behind Madalyn Miller but Riley Chandler made a defensive save to keep the game scoreless four minutes in.Bridgewater had an opportunity less than six minutes later as Lexi Francis got a shot on cage that was kicked away. Stevenson pressured the Eagles defense as the Mustangs got off four shots in less than a 20-second span that were all saved by Miller before another flurry of shots were saved. A penalty stroke was given and Gladstein's attempt was saved by Miller who racked up eight saved in just the opening 15 minutes.
- A penalty corner from Meredyth Rankin led to a shot on goal by Carynn Klingler that was saved and another penalty corner gave Kylie Amberger a shot on target. Stevenson eventually got the first goal of the contest as Gladstein scored her ninth of the season with less than two minutes to go in the opening half. The scoreline held through to the end of the quarter.
- Bridgewater tied the contest just a shade under four minutes into the third quarter as Daphne Daymude scored off a assist from Amora Marchand for her first goal of the season. The game stayed tied through the end of the third.Â
- The game remained in a deadlock through most of the final 15 minutes as each side exchanged scoring opportunities. Meghan Huey tallied the game-winning score with just two minutes to go in the game to give the Mustangs the victory.
MATCH STATS
- Daymude was the lone goal scorer for the Eagles as Marchand picked up an assist in the loss.
- Chandler and Rankin each had two defensive saves.
- Miller played all 60 minutes in the cage and made nine total saves, while Eve Vickery also played the entirety of the match for the Mustangs and kicked aside three shots.
- Stevenson outshot Bridgewater 18-5, while also holding a 6-4 advantage in penalty corners.
