Box Score LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Bridgewater College women's tennis team opened its fall season at the WildCat Invitational on Saturday.
A pair of freshmen opened the day with a doubles win in their first collegiate match and fought off a match point as
Raea Crabill and
Emma Staton edged out a pair from Pfeiffer in a tiebreak 8-7(6)
The second slate of doubles saw the freshmen duo pick up an 8-2 victory over Cabrera/Jagdeo from Randolph while
Grace Knighton and
Jolexie Whetzel grabbed their first win of the day with an 8-0 sweep of a pair of WildCats.Â
The opening round of singles saw a pair of battles as
Emma Nesselrodt stormed in front taking the opening set 6-0, but dropped the second 3-6 forcing a match tiebreak. The super senior fell 4-10 in the breaker coming up just short. Knighton battled in her opening singles match before falling 5-7, 2-6.Â
Crabill, Staton, Whetzel and
Emily Wylie all picked up wins in their opening singles matches of the afternoon session. Wylie had to battle back after dropping the opening set of her match 1-6 and did so with a late service break in the second to prevail 7-5 and won the ensuing breaker 10-5.Â
Knighton added a 6-7(4), 6-3, 10-6 win in her second match while Crabill, Whetzel and Staton all went unbeaten in singles action on the day.Â
