Volleyball Falls to No. 21 Mary Washington

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater volleyball team played its last home matchup in September this evening losing in four sets to No. 21 Mary Washington 3-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Eagles got off to an early 9-6 lead on the visiting team following a Faith DePew kill but was followed up with a 5-0 run to allow Mary Washington to move in front 11-9. BC stuck around near the end of the set following multiple kills from Kylie Robinson, Rachael Meyers, and DePew bringing the score within four, 23-19. A kill from Jordan Lyles gave the visitors the set 25-20.
  • Bridgewater again started the second set taking the early advantage following a kill from Robinson and two attack errors from Mary Washington to make it 11-6. Following the run of three, Reagan Stoop ended a run of four to help the Eagles get up by its largest lead of the set 16-8. BC claimed the 20 point mark following an attack error from the visitors, but Mary Washington traded points until match point when an attack error gave Bridgewater the set 25-19.
  • The third set saw the two teams trading points until two kills from Mary Washington led to a 10-7 advantage over the Eagles. BC stuck around going on a 5-0 run with the help of a Madeline Walker ace and a Stoop kill to bring the deficit down to one, 14-13. The visitors followed up the comeback with two runs to break 20 points. The final attack came from a Stoop kill but Mary Washington took the set 25-19.
  • The visitors strolled to a 10-5 advantage early in the final set however Bridgewater fought back to bring the set within two, 13-11. Mary Washington rolled to an 8-0 run with five of those points coming from Bryanna Miller service aces which helped the team win the set 25-14 and walk away with the win 3-1.
MATCH STATS
  • Stoop led the Eagles in kills with 18, while teammate Brooklyn Williams had six kills and sported an impressive .500 hitting percentage.
  • Ashley Rutherford and Faith Shields each had 15 assists.
  • BC was outdone on service aces with the visitors having a 14-4 advantage. Walker ended with three on the night.
  • Libero Sophia Stites led the way defensively with 15 digs, Shields had nine, and Rutherford rounded out with eight.
UP NEXT
Bridgewater starts a two-day road trip this Friday facing off against Virginia Wesleyan at 6 pm before going to Randolph-Macon on Saturday for a 1 pm tilt.
