ASHLAND, Va. – The Bridgewater volleyball team competed for the second consecutive day losing to Randolph-Macon 3-1.
THE BASICS
Final Score: Bridgewater 1; Randolph-Macon 3 (25-21, 13-25, 21-25, 18-25)
Records: Bridgewater 9-5 (2-2 ODAC); Randolph-Macon 8-3 (3-1 ODAC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles kept up with Randolph-Macon throughout the beginning of the first set with the help of Gabby Atwell and Reagan Stoop on the attack, but Randolph-Macon managed to hang on to the lead 10-6. Midway through the set, Faith DePew issued a kill to start a run of four and give BC its first lead of the set 15-14. The two teams traded runs nearing the end of the set, but Bridgewater prevailed with Kylie Robinson scoring the last point to go up 1-0.
- The Yellow Jackets once again got off to an early lead in the set until Stoop scored off a Faith Shields assist which helped the Eagles knot the score up at seven. BC's comeback efforts fell short with Randolph-Macon going on an 8-1 run which led to the series being tied.
- Bridgewater played down throughout the third set, but Atwell fired a kill late in the set to start a 10-1 run for the Eagles and bring the score within two, 21-19. Brooklyn Williams issued the last two attacks for BC with the Yellow Jackets taking the set 25-21.
- The final set saw the two teams fighting for the lead with Stoop firing a kill to bring the score within one, 15-14. The Yellow Jackets' Megan Bost followed up with an attack to go on a 3-0 run. Bridgewater scored a few more points but was outdone late in the set with Randolph-Macon taking the match 3-1.
MATCH STATS
- Stoop ended the match with 15 kills and swung a .394 percentage while Atwell recorded eight kills on 14 swings ending with a .500 hitting percentage. Robinson rounded issued seven kills on the afternoon.
- Madeline Walker served up three aces in the matchup while also compiling five digs.
- As a team, the Eagles ended with six blocks to the Yellow Jackets' five. Rachael Meyers assisted on four total to lead the category.
- Setters, Shields and Ashley Rutherford ended with double digit numbers in assists with 23 and 18, respectively.
- BC was led defensively by Sophia Stites who picked up 18 digs in the matchup.
