HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Bridgewater opened the first set in front of a raucous Lynchburg crowd but was able to block out the noise by taking a 6-2 lead. The Hornets continued to hang around until the nine point mark when Kylie Robinson fired a kill for the Eagles to go on a run and make it 13-9. BC's attack was too much for Lynchburg allowing the team to cruise to a 25-18 set win.
  • The second set was quite different for Bridgewater as the team played down for the beginning of the set. The Eagles called a timeout midway through the set with a Hornet lead of 15-11. The timeout proved advantageous as BC brought the deficit down to one, 15-14, forcing Lynchburg to call its own timeout. Faith DePew started a run of five to give Bridgewater a 19-17 advantage. The Hornets remained in the game going up by four, 23-19. The Eagles fought back with Reagan Stoop scoring off a kill to be down one, 24-23. Following a timeout called by Lynchburg, Robinson knotted the score up at 24 all with a kill. The game continued through the 25 point mark until Rachael Meyers sparked the attack to go up 2-0.
  • The final set saw the two teams trading points for much of the beginning, but Bridgewater was able to take an early 10-7 advantage following a Brooklyn Williams kill. The Hornets went on a 4-0 forcing the Eagles to take a timeout. The time out was followed up with a run of five with the help of Meyers' successful attacks giving BC the 15-11 advantage. Ashley Rutherford notched a kill to get Bridgewater to 20-13. The Eagles closed out the set with a Gabby Atwell kill to win the match 3-0.
