HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Marlins got on the board first by sinking a pair at the line. VWU capitalized after BC could not capitalize after a pair of offensive rebounds to make it 4-0 before Riley Corcoran got the scoring started for BC. Corcoran knocked down a jumper to even the game, but the Marlins replied to step back in front momentarily. Abby Freeman knocked down a pair at the line after a trio of offensive rebounds to spark a 13-0 run over the final 6:28 of the opening frame. Five different Eagles got in on the scoring action led by Alsberry with four during the run to go ahead 17-6 after 10 minutes of play.
- Jay Garcia got the scoring started in the second frame before a Marlins three pointer got the home side back to within 10. Reagan Maynard answered the call for BC with a long-range make of her own. VWU scored on back-to-back possessions before an Alsberry bucket ended the short scoring spurt. The Alsberry layup from the office started a 14-2 Bridgewater run over the final six minutes and change fueled by six from Corcoran. The BC defense held VWU to 1-for-9 from the floor during the span to take a 36-15 edge to the intermission.
- Freeman got the third quarter going with an assist on an Alsberry layup and followed it with a make of her own. An old-school three-point play from Kayla Ford and a floater from Corcoran forced a Marlin timeout as BC had opened the quarter on an 11-1 run over the first four minutes and change. Jay Garcia nailed a turnaround jumper before Virginia Wesleyan ended the field goal drought with a make from the deep corner. Aylin Humpherys found Jaiden Polston on an inbound play to get the Eagles back on the board just north of the two-minute mark before VWU knocked down one of two at the line in response. Humpherys found Garcia on the block for a difficult two to make it 53-20 for BC heading to the final period.
- Alsberry got the Eagles on the board to start the fourth before the Marlins drained a three on the other end. BC replied with a Freeman make and then the senior dropped a dime to Alsberry down low for an easy two. The Eagles offense kept rolling with layups from Autumn Gentry and another from Freeman before a Corcoran make made it a 10-0 BC run. Bridgewater outscored Virginia Wesleyan 5-3 after the 10-point run thanks to five points from Humpherys down the stretch to take home a victory.
