HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Guilford got on the board first over two minutes into the game before a second-chance effort from Riley Corcoran knotted things back up. Kayla Ford drained a three-pointer on a dish from Jaden Alsberry to out the Eagles in front for the first time, but Guilford drained one a few moments later to tie the game back up. The Quakers forced a turnover and scored to wrestle the lead back at 7-5 before Ford found Alsberry in the paint to tie the game once more. GC made a free throw to take a slight 8-7 edge before Ford drained another triple to make it 10-8 for the Eagles. Guilford replied with a 10-0 run behind five points from Courtney McMillan to make it 18-10 with under a minute to go in the opening frame. Abby Freeman scored to end the BC drought just before the horn as the sides headed to the benches with GC in front 18-12 after one.
  • The opening three minutes of the second quarter was all Bridgewater. BC opened the stanza on a 6-0 run with scores from India Dailey, Ford and Alsberry to tie the game at 18-18. The Quakers got back on the board and took the lead back before a Freeman layup knotted things back up. Both sides were scoreless for over two minutes with the game even until Jay Garcia dished to Corcoran across the paint to give the Eagles a 22-0 advantage. Guilford quickly tied the game on a second-chance effort on the next trip down the floor to even the game again. My'la Green scored with 2:36 to go in the half to give Bridgewater a slight edge again and in due time Guilford responded immediately to tie the game once again. Green drained a pair at the line and Alsberry followed with two points to give the Eagles their first sustained lead in quite some time at 28-24 with 33 seconds remaining in the half. Guilford got a pair of makes at the line from Zoe Bayer to make it 28-26 at the break.
  • Guilford quickly tied the game on its first possession of the third quarter and a score from Courtney McMillan gave the Quakers the lead back at 30-28. Corcoran leveld the game on the next BC possession before McMillan drained a three-pointer to give Guilford a 33-30 edge. Corcoran scored again off an assist from Freeman and she repaid the favor by finding Freeman on the next trip to give the Eagles the lead back at 34-33. The Quakers replied with a 6-0 run to take a 39-34 edge just past the midway point of the quarter before a Freeman score slowed the momentum. Another three-ball from McMillan and a layup from Bayer gave the Quakers a 44-36 edge forcing a BC timeout. Out of the stoppage, Corcoran and Freeman accounted for a 6-0 BC run to bring the game back down to a possession at 44-42. McMillan made a pair at the line inside of the final minute of the quarter to make it 46-42 for Guilford heading to the final stanza.
  • Guilford opened the fourth with a make before a 6-0 BC run, capped off by a Garcia make, tied the game at 48-48 with 6:27 to go. Guilford responded with an 8-1 scoring spree as the Quakers held BC to 0/5 from the field to take a 56-49 lead with 2:41 to play. Alsberry found Corcoran for a bucket to slice into the Quaker advantage, but a McMillan old-fashioned three-point play gave Guilford an eight-point lead with 1:28 on the clock. BC got down the floor and Ford found Alsberry for two to make it a five-point game, but an Anna Giannopoulou score, and some Bridgewater misses and turnovers sealed the deal.
MATCH NOTES
  • Corcoran led BC with a team-high 16 points and a season-best six rebounds.
  • McMillan led Guilford with a game-high 24 points including a perfect 3/3 beyond the arc.
  • BC shared the wealth with 15 assists led by four from Alsberry. All the starting five tallied multiple assists.
  • BC held Guilford to 16.7% from the floor in the second quarter, but a 44.8% mark in the second half helped lead the Quakers to the win.
