Eagles Defeat Marymount in Four Sets on Homecoming

Box Score

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Bridgewater women's volleyball took down the Marymount Saints in four sets Saturday afternoon during homecoming at Nininger Hall.

The Basics

Score: Bridgewater (BCE) 3, Marymount (MU) 1

Records: BCE (15-4 Overall), MU (2-18 Overall)

How It Happened

  • The Eagles would get off to a strong start in the first set clicking on all cylinders and executing the game plan with a quick and efficient attack. BCE spiked an impressive 17 kills in the set to Marymount's seven. BCE took care of business to open the match taking a 25-16 first set.

  • Then, much of the same offensive attack worked in Bridgewater's favor in the second set and it would capitalize on the eight attacking errors from the Saints. The Eagles finished off the second, 25-14.

  • In the third set, a shift in the momentum took place halfway in the set where the Eagles found themselves trailing by two at 20-18. The Eagles weathered a few extensive points to keep the set close, but fell short in the set, 25-23.

  • As the fourth set unraveled, the Eagles pulled ahead and slipped past the defense of the Saints to give them a cushion. 11 kills would be nailed down by BCE, limiting to only two attack errors. Bridgewater closed the day out with a final set score, 25-13.

Match Notes

  • Bridgewater led in significant offensive categories including 45 kills and 10 service aces.

  • The defense would also be very present for the Eagles with a season high in total blocks (12) and had 50 digs.
