Eagles Fall at Roanoke

Box Score SALEM, Va. – The Bridgewater College women's tennis team fell to Roanoke 8-1 on Tuesday evening

Bridgewater opened doubles action by grabbing a win at the No. 3 spot. Raea Crabill and Emma Staton worked their way to an 8-6 victory to get the Eagles on the board heading to singles play.

Both Ryan Roeber and Emma Nesselrodt each put up good fights before falling 2-6, 3-6 at the No. 3 and No. 1 spots respectively. Jolexie Whetzel was locked into a battle at the No. 4 spot after dropping the opening set 2-6. Whetzel won the second set 7-5 to force a match tiebreak. The freshman pulled in front 7-2 in the breaker, but Roanoke slowly closed back in and had the first match point at 8-9. Whetzel fought it off and would have two of her own that she failed to convert. The Maroons finally capitalized on their third opportunity to take the decider 13-15.

The Eagles are right back at it tomorrow as they host Olivet at 3 p.m.
