BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- The Bridgewater College women's lacrosse team fell to Randolph-Macon, 18-9, at Bridgewater Stadium in ODAC action on Wednesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both sides traded empty possessions for the opening five minutes before Annika Benson capitalized in a woman-up situation with a helper from Kaity Petersheim to take a 1-0 lead. Petersheim then scored off a pass from Lauren Roberts to double the lead to 2-0. The Yellow Jackets struck back with a pair of goals of their own, both by Lilly Fowler, to end the first quarter tied up at two apiece.
- Ashley Venit found the back of the cage during while a player up to give Bridgewater the lead back at the 14:44 mark of the second. Roberts scored two goals in a row as she reached the 200-point mark for her career. She becomes just the sixth member of the program to reach the feat. Paige Mayers also registered a goal as a four-goal run by BC put the Eagles up 6-2 with 7:32 remaining in the half. Fowler completed her hat trick to get RMC back in it followed by scores from Cami NcNeally and Evie McNeally as the game went into halftime nearly deadlocked at 6-5 in favor of Bridgewater.
- Â Coming out of the break, Cami McNeally scored again to tie the game at 6-6, but Roberts picked up her third goal of the evening to put the Eagles back in front, 7-6, with 7:34 left in the third. A pair of goals from RMC gave the Yellow Jackets their first lead of the contest at 8-7, but Roberts again tied the game at 8-8 with a feed from Mayers. Another goal by Fowler gave the visitors the advantage again at 9-8 with Roberts responding with 44 seconds left to once again knot the game up at 9-9. In the final seconds of the period, Taylor Mittelstadter found the back of the cage to give RMC a 10-9 lead after 45 minutes.
- Randolph-Macon held the Eagles without a goal in the fourth quarter, outscoring the home side 8-0 on its way to the 18-9 victory.
GAME STATS
- Roberts led all Eagles with six points off five goals and one assist while also picking up one ground ball and grabbing two draw controls.
- Mayers, Petersheim, Venit and Benson all scored once as well.
- Mayers led the Eagles with two assists with Petersheim and Aunnie Hacker joining Roberts with one assist.
- Mayers snagged six draw controls to lead BC while Petersheim pulled down three of her own. Grace Pietro also had one draw control in the loss.
- Rachael Robinson led the defensive side of things with five ground balls. Julia Mohler had two GBs.
- Robinson, Mohler, Caris Cianelli, Tavin Krick, Petersheim and Pietro all caused one turnover.Â
- Despite the loss, Robinson was able to make 14 saves, including 10 in the first half to keep the Eagles in the game.
- Randolph-Macon out shot Bridgewater 42-17 and had 29 ground balls compared to the Eagles 11.
