Daymude's Hat Trick Leads Field Hockey in Win over Centre

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater College field hockey team opened the 2024 season with a 4-0 win over Centre behind a hat trick from Daphne Daymude.

THE BASICS
Final Score: Bridgewater 4, Centre 0
Records: Bridgewater 1-0, Centre 0-1

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Neither side could muster much offense early before a penalty corner gave BC a chance in the 12th minute. On the set piece, Autmun just worked the ball around to Daymude who rifled a shot from the top of the zone to the back of the net to make it 1-0.
  • Cntre saw scoring chance early in the second quarter, but a save from Madalyn Miller kept the Eagles in front. Bridgewater added some insurance off the stick of Daymude once again on a set piece. A penalty corner in the final minute of the third quarter saw Carynn Klingler shoot from the top of the zone and Daymude scooped up the blocked attempt and finished the score to make it 2-0.
  • BC had multiple chances early in the fourth and the third penalty corner in a row ended up being the most successful one as Klingler shot it again rom the top of the zone as Lexi Francis awaited the misfire and put it in the back of the net to make it 3-0 for the home team. Another penalty corner finished the scoring late in the fourth as a diving effort from Daymude in the offensive end guided its way through traffic and in to seal the deal.
MATCH FACTS
  • Daymude's hat trick paced the Eagles offensively and marks the second season-opening trifecta for the program in back-to-back seasons.
  • Daymude led the Eagles in shots as well with three. Klingler and Rylie Flick tallied a pair each, while Francis had just the one.
  • Miller and Ashley Nau split time in the cage as Miller made one save and Nau made a pair.
  • Bridgewater outshot Centre 8-3 including a 5-3 edge in shots on goal.
