LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Bridgewater College women's tennis team competed in the Randolph Women's Invitational on Saturday to open its fall season.
Raea Crabill and
Emma Staton picked up the first win of the day for the Eagles in a battle on the doubles court. The pairing's match went the distance as the won their single-set doubles match in a tiebreak 7-6(6). The paring had a tough battle against a pairing from Shenandoah later in the day and came up just short 4-6.
The rookie tandem of
Devon Wichael and
Kira Doyne picked up a win in doubles action for BC as the duo cruised to a 6-2 victory over a pairing from Lynchburg.Â
The highlight of the singles action came from
Sarah Slagle as the newcomer battled back after dropping the opening set 0-6 to Lynchburg's Ashley Hair. Slagle regrouped and battled to take the second set 6-4 and forced a match-tiebreak where Hair was able to fend off the comeback effort 6-10.
Wichael also battled in singles play as she came up just short 3-6, 5-7 in her lone singles match on the day.Â
the Eagles are back in action on Monday at Southern Virginia.
