Defense Rolls as Eagles Dominate Methodist

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Bridgewater College women's basketball team took care of Methodist 56-20, in dominant fashion.

The Basics
Score: (RV) Bridgewater 56, Methodist 20
Records: (RV) Bridgewater 8-2, Methodist 3-8

How It Happened
  • Asia WIlliams got the Eagles on the board on BC's first possession, but a Methodist three-pointer gave the Monarchs the lead. The Monarchs lead did not last as Riley Corcoran scored on the other end and sparked a 12-0 BC run over the next five minutes. Corocran had seven of the 12 points for BC including the three-pointer on a dish from Aylin Humpherys to make it 14-3. Methodist ended its scoring drought, but a layup by Anna-Faith Brunk in the final minute of the period made it 16-5 for the Eagles after 10 minutes of play.
  • Katie O'Connor got the scoring started 2:39 into the second frame on a layup off a My'la Green helper. O'Connor followed that up on the other end with a bucket and the offense rolled along with the defense. Scores by Jaiden Polston, Autumn Gentry, Green, Corcoran and Humpherys fueled an 18-3 BC run throughout nearly the entire period. Bridgewater was 9-for-18 from the field during the span, while Methodist was scoreless on 10 attempts from the floor. MU finally got a make from the field in the frame on a two-point jumper in the waining seconds of the half to make it 34-10, in favor opf Bridgewater.
  • Methodist struck first out of the break, but that would be their only field goal of the third quarter. Corcoran, Brunk and Jay Garcia combined for a 7-0 BC run following the quarter-opening bucket to make it 41-12 before a Methodist free throw got the home team back on the board. O'Connor drilled a three-pointer to extend the lead out to 31 points, before a Monarchs make at the charity stripe made it 44-14 heading to the fourth quarter.
  • A make by Green at the charity stripe 90 seconds into the final stanza started the scoring, but a Monarchs' jumper cut the lead to under 30. A Corcoran score and four points from O'Connor fueled a 6-0 run for BC that followed to make it 51-16 with 3:53 to play. Methodist was able to put up a miniature 4-2 scoring run to make it 53-20 with two minutes to play, but a make at the line by Savannah Wilson and a Gentry bucket made it 56-20 to end the contest.
Match Notes,
