How It Happened
- Marymount got on the board first with a layup on the game's second possession, but Asia Williams got BC on the board on the next trip down the floor off an assist from Polston. MU made one of two at the charity stripe to take the lead back, but Polston sank a pair at the line to put BC in front 4-3 with six minutes to go in the opening frame. The junior followed with a steal and drove the length of the floor for the layup that followed and BC continued to roll as she assisted a Jay Garcia score and finished in the BC run to make it paint to cap off an 8-1 BC run to make it 10-4. The Saints ended a four-minute drought without a bucket on their next trip, but three-pointers from Aylin Humpherys and Garcia combined with a Williams score for an 8-0 run to end the opening period at an 18-6 BC advantage.
- RIley Corcoran got on the board with BC's first bucket of the second quarter on the Eagles' first possession of the frame. MU ended another lengthy scoring drought on its following trip and looked to get offense going, but a Garcia score for BC stifled that hope. Marymount regrouped with back-to-back scores to cut the deficit back to single digits, but a Corcoran old-school three-point play sparked a 10-0 BC run that was polished off by another Polston score to make it 32-13 with a minute to play in the first half. Marymount scored in the final 30 seconds of the frame to make it 32-15, in favor of the Eagles, at the intermission.
- The Saints opened the third quarter with back-to-back buckets, but BC regrouped as WIlliams and Polston combined for an 8-3 BC run to make it 40-22 four minutes into the frame. Savannah Wilson extended the lead to 20 points a while later, but MU scored five-straight to cut into the gap. Anna-Faith Brunk answered the call with five points of --her own to make it 47-27 with over two minutes to go in the stanza. The Saints regrouped after the scoring spree by the rookie, as the home side closed the third quarter on a 7-1 run to make it 48-34 heading to the fourth quarter.
- Marymount opened the final period with a bucket 90 seconds into the quarter. MU began the fourth on a 7-3 run to close the lead down to 51-41 with 6:52 to play. Corcoran put the Eagles on a short 4-1 run to make it 55-42, but MU did not go away as a 6-2 run in response cut the lead down to nine points with 2:20 to play. Bridgewater rebounded perfectly as a third-chance effort by Polston found nylon and she was fouled. The possession chewed nearly a minute of game time, but she missed the and-one. Garcia grabbed the clutch offensive board, and Polston grabbed another before a turnover finally ended a 80-second Eagles' possession. MU needed a quick bucket, but Polston continued her big day with a huge block and the rebound. BC missed its shot going the other way and Marymount was able to score with under 30 seconds left and had to foul. Corcoran was hacked and made both free throws to seal the victory on the road.
