How It Happened
  • Both teams had chances throughout the opening stanza, but a failed BC clear resulted in UMW's first strike of the afternoon and a 1-0 lead. Mary Washington added to the tally without BC touching the ball to make it 2-0 nine minutes in. BC had a good chance late in the frame highlighted by shots on goal by Luke Wendler and Jake Wagner that were turned away by Wyatt Martin. UMW struck once more late in the quarter to take a 3-0 edge after the first 15 minutes.
  • Mary Washington registered two quick tallies to open the second quarter and take a 5-0 lead before a BC timeout led to RIley Stewart finding the back of the net to get Bridgewater on the board. BC struck again a minute later as Finnegan Pulich found the back of the net to make it 5-2 with 7:25 to go in the half. BC kept rolling with chances, but Mary Washington struck just before the end of the half to take a 6-2 lead into the break.
  • UMW added to the lead twice within seven seconds five minutes into the half a two quick goals in succession made it 8-2 for the home team. Both teams traded punches down the stretch including a Chris McBroom shot for Bridgewater that was scooped up by UMW to take the game to the fourth at that same 8-2 margin.
  • Bridgewater started the fourth quarter a man up and took advantage as Alex Gargarion fired and scored to cut the lead to five. UMW responded with a tally right away, but BC then found itself on the man-advantage again, but a save spoiled the chance. UMW added on to the lead with three strikes over the final five minutes to seal the deal.
