Cross Country Teams Place Second In Eagle Cross Country Challenge

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Bridgewater College's men's and women's cross country teams competed in the Eagle Cross Country Challenge Friday evening. Both teams placed second in the team category.

The young men's team had an impressive showing in the 6K, as BC saw three athletes place in the top 10. Senior Gabe Miller, the winner of last year's 6K at the Eagle Cross Country Challenge, led the Eagles with a 7th place finish, clocking a time of 20:09.5.

Freshmen Gavin Diehl and Grayson Jacquez placed ninth and tenth, respectively, in their debut in the Crimson and Gold as the two ran side-by-side for the entire race. Freshmen Kaedon Howley and Malakai Wettig finished 17th and 19th, respectively, to round out the scoring finishers for Bridgewater.

Bridgewater tallied 56 points to finish second in team scoring in the men's 6K. Roanoke finished first after having their five scoring runners finish in the top five. The unranked Eagles finished higher than Shenandoah, the ninth placed team in the USTFCCCA South Regional rankings that were released Thursday, Aug. 28.

Freshman Olivia Morra clocked a 15:21.8 and finished first in her first meet with the Eagles. She led for the majority of the race, almost immediately jumping in front of a sea of Washington and Lee blue. Senior Regan Robinson finished 26th with a time of 16:43.2. Sophomore Paige Heiserman finished 32nd with a time of 16.55.6. Freshman Annah Wood and senior Molly Williamson finished 34th and 35th, respectively, to round out the scoring finishers for BC.

Bridgewater tallied 71 points, good for second in team scoring in the women's 4K. Washington and Lee finished first after their five scoring runners secured second through sixth place.

Bridgewater will next compete in the CNU Cross Country Invitational on Friday, Sept. 12. The men will compete first at 5:30 p.m., followed by the women at 6:20 p.m.
