HAVE A DAY:Â Bridgewater quarterback
Parker Burke had a historic day in Salem on Saturday. The UVA-Wise transfer threw for a school record 497 yards in the victory, shattering the previous record held by Carlos Gonzalez for nearly 15 years to the day. His 497 yards are the most by an ODAC player this season and rank just outside of the league's all-time list. His 28 completions tied with Jay Scroggins for the third most in a single contest in program history, while his four passing TDs are the most in a single game since Scroggins in 2016. His 503 yards of total offense also shattered the program record by 98 yards, previously held by BC Hall of Famer Jason Lutz, set in the 2001 Stagg Bowl.
UNDER DOG?:Â The Bridgewater Football team picked up its third win of the season on Saturday with a thrilling 51-48 result at Roanoke. BC kicked a field goal as time expired to secure the win at the home of this year's National Championship Game. Two of Bridgewater's three wins this season, including Saturday, have come against teams ranked ahead of them in the NCAA Power Index. The Eagles are the only team in the ODAC with multiple victories over teams slotted ahead of them in the NCAA's Selection rankings, while the rest of the league is a combined 2-21 vs. teams ranked above them.Â
THE DARKSIDE: The Bridgewater defense gave up 48 points on Saturday, but still held an explosive Roanoke offense to 334 yards in total. The Eagles rank 26th nationally against the pass and second in the league.
Oscar Whitely ran his double-digit tackle streak to seven straight games with nine solo tackles in the victory Saturday. The senior leads the ODAC and ranks third nationally at 6.88 solo tackles per game and sits second nationally in total tackles at 12.0 per game.
Joey Strong tied with Whitely for the team high in stops on Saturday (11) and ranks second behind him in the ODAC in solo tackles with 5.63 per game.
Jayden Booth forced a fumble late in the first half, broke up a pair of passes, and recorded 1.5 TFL in the win on Saturday as he ranks fourth in the league in stops behind the line.Â
OFFENSIVE EXPLOSION: Â The Bridgewater offense embarks on a new chapter in 2026 as Kevin Saxton II takes over the signal calling in his first season as the Assistant Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator.
Parker Burke exploded for 497 yards passing on Saturday to shatter the program's single-game record. Burke's day ranks as the third-most passing yards in a single game this season by any Div. III quarterback. Burke shared the wealth as
Brandon Anderson,
Tino Ramirez and
Nick Barahona all caught a touchdown and racked up 100 yards or more receiving.
Tommy Nelson led the BC ground attack with 76 yards on the ground on just six carries. The Eagles totaled 612 yards of total offense on Saturday against former defensive coordinator Mike Giancola, the most for the program since BC tallied 666 yards in a 52-28 victory at Ferrum in 2022.Â
SPECIAL TEAMS MATTER: Â
Shane Glenn delivered with the game on the line on Saturday. Glenn's 36-yard boot as time expired gave BC the victory and earned him ODAC Player of the Week honors. It also marked the seventh time an Eagle has won the award in the last two seasons.
Aiden Grefe ranks second in the ODAC and 53rd nationally with 38.5 yards per boot. BC ranks 39th nationally in net punting.
Tommy Nelson added to the special teams highlights against Susquehanna as he took a kickoff 92 yards to the house for BC's first touchdown of the season. Nelson ranks 13th in Div. III in kickoff returns with an average of 28.3 yards per attempt after a 32-yard return last week.
Jamari Lewis and rookie
Chris Crossland also have pitched in to help the return game. Lewis ranks in the top 100 nationally at 21.1 yards per return, while Crossland returned four kicks on Saturday for 119 yards.Â
SCOUTING THE TIGERS: Â Hampden-Sydney comes into Saturday's matchup with Div. III's leading rusher Terry Hicks. Hicks leads Div. III with 1,261 yards on the ground this season, and is averaging 157.6 yards per game. Hicks has tallied over 200 yards rushing in three games this season and has been fed the ball 36+ times in four games this year. He has a rushing score in six games this season and is approaching nearly 3,500 career rushing yards. As a unit, the HSC offense leads the conference, averaging 488.6 yards per game. The Tigers' defense ranks in the bottom half of the conference in total yards surrendered, but the Tigers bend and don't break with the ODAC's second-best red-zone defense. Frank Brewer, Parks Cromwell and Mitch Ladamus lead the defensive unit for the Tigers, while Matthew Wright is one of just two players in the ODAC with multiple fumble recoveries this season.
HAMPDEN-SYDNEY HEAD COACH: Â Vince Luvara is in his third season at the helm of the Tigers program after serving as the defensive coordinator at Washington & Jefferson, where the Presidents' defense was one of the best in the conference and all of Div. III. Luvara's defensive unit registered 63 All-PAC honors and in 2022 allowed an impressive 12.7 points per game, 15th in all of Division III. Luvara also served as the recruiting coordinator under current W&J head coach Mike Sirriani, who has been at the helm of the Presidents' program for 22 years. Mike Sirriani's brother, Nick, is the current head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles and caught a touchdown pass against Bridgewater in the 2001 Stagg Bowl.
