Baseball Dominates Against #22 Christopher Newport Behind Three Homers for Walter

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Bridgewater College baseball cruised by No. 22 nationally ranked Christopher Newport by a final score of 18-1 on the road Wednesday behind a single-game program record of three home runs by Jakson Walter

The Bridgewater College Eagles (BC) have improved to a perfect 8-0 overall record, and the No. 22 Christopher Newport Captains (CNU) have dropped to 5-2 overall this season.

How It Happened

  • The game flew smoothly and explosively for the Eagles from the start. In the first inning, Jakson Walter got the offense firing with a three-run shot over the left field wall, scoring Zack Chadwell and Bransen Hensley on the play.

  • The Captains scored their lone run of the day in the bottom of the first with an RBI single, and from there, the Eagles poured on the runs, leaving the Captains behind in dominant fashion. In the second inning, the Eagles tacked on four runs to mark a 7-1 lead. Nick Stavros started the action off with a dart to the wall in left center, logging a one-run double and scoring TJ Johnson. Hensley barreled a single through the right side to score Chandler ValbakTrent Holland and Ashton Smith laced together a pair of runs off RBI singles to bring around Stavros and Hensley.

  • After a steady lead through four innings, BC stormed ahead. Zack Chadwell smacked a three-run home run to left center. Soon after, Walter crushed his second homer of the day knocking in Holland. With bases loaded, Valbak worked a walk to earn a run to top off the monstrous fifth inning.

  • The Eagles pushed the lead even further out of reach in the seventh inning as Holland popped a single to center field to score Stavros for his third run of the day. To capitalize on the run-rule advantage, Walter launched his third homer of the day for three more runs and closed out the contest in dominant fashion with an 18-1 victory.

Game Notes

  • Jakson Walter posted a program record with three home runs in a game and added eight RBIs to his statline which ties the program record.

  • The last time Bridgewater won with a 17-run differential was back in 2022 against Guilford in a 17-0 win.

  • The Eagles dominated offensively scoring 18 runs off 19 hits.
