BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater College women's lacrosse team picked up their first home win of the 2026 season Thursday afternoon in their Bleed Crimson matchup against Transylvania by a score of 19-4.

How it Happened

Bridgewater won the opening draw control, but was unable to score on the first possession. After forcing a turnover on the Pinoneers two minutes into the opening stanza, Carly Gardill found Paige Overeem on the fastbreak for the first goal of the afternoon. Transylvania quickly retaliated by scoring 20 seconds later. The Eagles put some distance between themselves and the Pioneers by going on a 3-0 run over the next two minutes. After losing Gardill to a green card at the 11:57 mark of the quarter, Overeem connected with Ella Price for a goal to regain the lead for Bridgewater. Paige Mayers followed with a free position goal a minute later, and Overeem scored unassisted with 9:16 remaining in the opening period. Transylvania scored twice before the end of the period to cut the BC lead to one, but Taylor Price scored on a woman up free position shot with 40 seconds remaining in the opening period.

Bridgewater made a sizeable lead for themselves in the second quarter, as they went on a 6-0 run during the period. Taylor Price scored on an assist from Ella Price thirty seconds into the second quarter to spark the run. Gardill scored unassisted seconds later to Eagles lead to 7-3. Bridgewater went scoreless for nearly seven minutes, but ended the drought when Andrea Lorca found Lauren Garrett on a woman up play. Garrett scored again with 5:46 remaining in the half, and Lorca found the back of the net a minute later. Ella Price scored the last goal of the half for the Eagles with 3:05 remaining in the half. Price received a pass from Kyla Fricks and flinged a no-look shot past the Pioneers goalkeeper.

Despite coming out the half with an 11-3 advantage, Bridgewater continued to apply pressure on both ends. With one and a half minutes elapsed in the second half, Overeem scored her third goal of the contest. The Pioneers scored their fourth and final goal of the contest with 12:46 remaining in the third quarter. The Eagles scored five goals over the remainder of the third period, with three coming in the final five minutes of action. During the 5-0 run to end the third quarter, Mayers scored twice. Taylor Price, Garrett, and Gardill each scored a goal. Coach Hughes subbed out starting keeper Maisen Jenkins for Addison McDaniels after Garrett scored with 7:37 remaining in the period, making the score 14-4.

Bridgewater had five players record a hat trick. Mayers scored four goals, while Gardill, Taylor Price, Garrett, and Overeem each found the back of the net three times. Ella Price scored twice, and Andrea Lorca found the back of the net once.

Bridgewater hosts Guilford on Saturday, Mar. 14 at 3 p.m. This will be the first conference game for the Eagles this season. The game will be streamed live on FloCollege.
