How It Happened
-
The Eagles and the Hornets went head-to-head trading lead changes in the opening set. Aiden Weaver knocked down back-to-back kills to start out a 2-1 lead. The Hornets quickly claimed the lead, and the Eagles claimed the lead right back. In the middle of the set, UL ran into consecutive attacking errors to give BC a chance to break away with a controlled lead at 10-7. However, three points later the score was knotted up again. BC ignited a short scoring burst late in the set at 24-22 at match point, but the Hornets eliminated the match point to then switch with the match point themselves. The set extended to a 27-25 opening set score, and the Hornets grabbed the early momentum.
-
The momentum carried the rest of the way for the Hornets. The second set was a strategy of holding controlled leads. The Eagles attempted a controlled lead with the help of a four-point scoring run, but UL came back with a five-point run to respond. Another five-point run was sparked late in the set to give the Hornets the edge, squeezing by with a 25-20 set score.
-
Despite a hard-fought effort for a controlled lead in the early part of the set, the Eagles could not find the breakaway needed to claim any momentum. UL strung together five-straight points through the middle of the set to hold the momentum and separated themselves from BC effectively. The Hornets closed out the match with a final set score of 25-16.
