Women's Lacrosse Extends Win Streak to Four

HUNTIGDON, Pa. – The Bridgewater College women's lacrosse team improved to 5-3 on the season following a 12-5 road win over Juniata Wednesday evening. The Eagles now boast a 3-1 road record this season.

How it Happened
  • Juniata scored the first goal of the contest with 11:43 on the clock in the opening stanza. Paige Mayers won the following draw and quickly scored to get the Eagles on the board. With 9:09 remaining, Ella Price connected with Alli Kuhar to give Bridgewater the lead. Mayers connected with Paige Overeem four minutes later to extend the BC lead to two. JC responded with a goal shortly after, but Andrea Lorca closed the quarter for the Eagles with an unassisted goal to enter the first break with a 4-2 Bridgewater lead.
  • Carly Gardill scored in the first 30 seconds of the second period on a free position shot. Overeem scored with 1:16 elapsed in the second quarter to push the BC lead to four. Bridgewater had three more shot attempts in the quarter, but were unable to find the back of the net.
  • Lorca scored her second goal of the contest in the opening minute of the second half to make it a 7-2 ball game. Juniata responded with a score immediately after the draw to cut the BC lead to four. After a JC player was rewarded with a non-releasable yellow card with two minutes elapsed in the third quarter, Ella Price and the Eagles offense took advantage of the extra-woman opportunity by scoring twice in a span of 35 seconds. Ella Price scored on an assist from Mayers on the first goal, and then scored unassisted on the second to make it a 9-3 score. Olivia Lawrence scored on an assist from Mayers with 6:14 left on the clock to give the Eagles double-digits on the score board. Juniata scored in the final 1:15 of the stanza to enter the final period trailing by six.
  • Mayers opened the final stanza with a woman-up free position goal in the first minute. After nearly five minutes of scoreless lacrosse, Juniata found the back of the net to cut their deficit to six. Ella Price secured a hat trick by scoring the final goal of the contest with 8:41 remaining.
Game Notes
  • Paige Mayers recorded the 200th draw control win of her career.
  • Maisen Jenkins logged 51 minutes in goal for the Eagles and was credited with the win. Jenkins recorded 11 saves. Kaylee Gerber logged the final 9:13 of game action and recorded the first save of her collegiate career.
 
What's Next?
Bridgewater faces Southern Virginia on the road on Mar. 24 at 7 p.m. This will be the final non-conference game for the Eagles until they host Mary Washington for their season finale on Apr. 22 at 7 p.m.
