Women's Lacrosse Blanks Southern Virginia

BUENA VISTA, Va. - The Bridgewater College women's lacrosse team cruised to a 13-0 win over Southern Virginia Tuesday night. The Eagles improved to 6-3 on the season and raised their win streak to five games. 

The Basics 

Score: Bridgewater 13, Southern Virginia 0 

Records: Bridgewater (6-3), Southern Virginia (3-5, 3-2 USA South) 

How it Happened 

  • Kyla Fricks scored the first three goals for the Eagles within the first two minutes. Fricks got the Eagles their first goal with 13 seconds elapsed in the contest. Fricks found the back of the net 53 seconds into the game on an assist from Olivia Lawrence. Fricks scored again unassisted with 13:13 remaining in the opening period. After going scoreless for four minutes, Paige Overeem connected with Carly Gardill fresh out of the penalty box to give the Eagles a 4-0 advantage. Ella Price scored on an assist from Lauren Garrett with 4:51 remaining in the opening quarter. The final goal of the stanza came with 1:51 remaining where Alli Kuhar found Overeem for her first goal of the contest. 

  • Bridgewater was scoreless in the opening three minutes of the second quarter but continued their scoring ways with 12:32 remaining in the first half when Madelaine Godat scored on an assist from Paige Mayers. With 9:23 remaining in the half, the Gardill-Overeem tandem connected for a score again. The game was scoreless for the remainder of the half. 

  • BC notched two goals in the third quarter, coming from opposite ends of the clock. The first was scored by Ella Price on an assist from Kuhar with 13:38 left on the clock. The second came in the final second of the quarter from Overeem to give the Eagles a 10-0 lead leading into the final stanza. 

  •  Mayers scored the first of three goals coming from the final stanza on an assist from Overeem with nine minutes left on the clock. Kuhar ripped one shortly after. Mayers scored the final tally with 4:39 left in the contest. 

Game Notes 

  • Bridgewater extended their win streak to five.  

  • Paige Overeem and Kyla Fricks both recorded a hat trick. Overeem led the team in scoring with six points, stemming from three goals and three assists. Overeem also led the team in caused turnovers with five. 

  • Bridgewater had seven goal scorers in the contest. Nine Eagles recorded points. 

  • All three Bridgewater goalies saw game action. Maisen Jenkins received the starting nod and was credited with the win. Jenkins logged the first 27:50 and recorded one save. Addison McDaniel played the next 17:50 and recorded a team-high three saves. Kaylee Gerber subbed in for the final quarter and recorded two saves. 

What's Next? 

Bridgewater opens conference play on the road on Saturday, Mar. 28 against Randolph-Macon at 1 p.m. The game will be streamed live on FloCollege.
