Bridgewater battled with the #3 team in the nation for most of the opening stanza. The Hornets scored a goal in the opening minute. Isaac Beals responded by finding the back of the net with 3:48 elapsed in the game on an assist from Riley Stewart. After two Lynchburg goals, Stewart connected with Luke Wendler to cut the Lynchburg lead to 3-2. With 1:26 remaining in the opening period, Tristan Lee found Luke Wendler on a man-up opportunity to keep it a one-score game. Lynchburg scored three goals in the final 32 seconds of action to put the Eagles in a four-point hole entering the first break.
