Women's Lacrosse Drops First ODAC Match of the Season

ASHLAND, Va. - The Bridgewater College women's lacrosse team fell to Randolph-Macon on the road 15-5 Saturday afternoon. This was the first ODAC loss of the season for the Eagles. 

The Basics 

Score: Bridgewater 5, Randolph-Macon 15 

Records: Bridgewater (6-4, 1-1 ODAC), Randolph-Macon (8-3, 2-1 ODAC) 

How it Happened 

  • Bridgewater held the Yellow Jackets to one goal in the opening period. With 2:32 elapsed in the contest, the Yellow Jackets scored unassisted to jump to an early lead. Both teams recorded two more shot attempts over the course of the opening period, but were unable to find the back of the net.  

  • Macon went on a 3-0 run over the first 7:27 of game action in the second quarter. A minute later, Ella Price connected with Paige Overeem to put the Eagles on the board. RMC kept their foot on the gas pedal and went on a 3-0 run over the next three minutes, sparked by a woman-up goal with 5:51 remaining in the first half. Paige Mayers scored on a free position shot with 2:18 remaining in the half to cut the BC deficit to five. Randolph scored in the final seconds to enter the halftime break with an 8-2 advantage. 

  • RMC tallied two early goals in the third period. Carly Gardill scored on an assist from Mayers for their third goal of the afternoon. Neither team was able to score over the next four minutes, but Macon put an end to the drought with a 3-0 run. In the final minute of the quarter, Mayers scored her second goal of the contest on a free position shot. 

  • The Yellow Jackets scored twice in the final stanza. Mayers secured her hat trick and scored the final goal for the Eagles with 6:49 remaining in the contest on a woman-up free position shot. 

Game Notes 

  • The Eagles were out-shot by the Yellow Jackets 25-12. RMC put 14 shots on target compared to BC's five. 

  • Reagan Sterrs had a game-high seven caused turnovers and four ground balls. 

  • Paige Mayers recorded four points, stemming from three goals and one assist.  

  • Maisen Jenkins and Addison McDaniel split halves in between the pipes for the Eagles. Jenkins made one save and was credited with the loss. McDaniel subbed in for the second half and made four saves.

The Eagles play Shenandoah in Winchester on Wednesday, Apr. 1 at 5 p.m. The game will be streamed live on FloCollege.
