Women's Lacrosse Freezes Monarchs

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Bridgewater College women's lacrosse team took a 15-3 road win against Methodist Thursday evening. In the final game of their spring break road schedule, the Eagles put an end to a three-game skid.

The Basics

Scores: Bridgewater 15, Methodist 3

Records: Bridgewater (2-3), Methodist (3-3)

How it Happened

  • Paige Mayers put the Eagles on the board first 2:20 into the competition. After fending off a couple of Methodist shot attempts, the Eagles found the back of the net again nearly four minutes later when Mayers connected with freshman Lauren Garrett. Methodist continued to apply pressure to the BC defense, until they finally scored with 2:35 remaining in the opening period.

  • The Eagles outscored Methodist 5-0 in the second quarter. Ella Price struck first with two minutes elapsed in the quarter. Andrea Lorca found the back of the net a minute later. After forcing a shot clock violation and a couple of failed clears, Mayers and Garrett each picked up their second goals of the game. With a minute remaining in the half, Taylor Price found Mayers for her third goal of the contest, giving the Eagles a 7-1 advantage into halftime.

  • The Eagles failed to convert on their first couple of shot attempts in the second half but continued their run with 11:23 remaining in the third quarter when Lorca recorded her second goal of the game. A couple minutes later, Methodist found the back of the net for the first time since the final minutes of the first quarter. After this, the Ella Price-Paige Mayers duo connected on back-to-back goals, giving both players a goal and an assist in the box score. Carly Gardill scored twice in the final two minutes of the third quarter to give Bridgewater a 12-2 advantage.

  • Garrett connected with Madelaine Godat 15 seconds into the final period to continue the Bridgewater surge. Methodist fought back with a goal of their own a minute later. Paige Overeem scored with 8:08 remaining in the game on an assist from Godat. Overeem scored again in the waning minutes on a woman-up opportunity to put the Eagles up 15-3.
