AMHERST, Va. - The Bridgewater College women's lacrosse team cruised to a 20-0 win over Sweet Briar in three periods of action Saturday afternoon. This is the second straight 20+ point win for the Eagles.

How it Happened

The Eagles logged their first goal on a Paige Mayers goal with 48 seconds elapsed in the contest. After Aubrey Beale claimed the following draw control, Sweet Briar picked up the first card of the game, putting the Eagles up a woman. Shortly after, Mayers connected with Carly Gardill for the second goal of the contest. Mayers cashed in on her second goal of the contest with 10:19 remaining in the opening stanza to put the Eagles up by three. Sienna Land added to the BC lead with the first free position goal of the contest. Lauren Garrett, Ella Price, Paige Overeem, and Mayers all scored a goal apiece over the remainder of the first period to send the Eagles into the first break with an 8-0 advantage.

Maisen Jenkins was subbed out for Addison McDaniel in the second period. After going scoreless in the first two minutes of the second quarter, Gardill and Overeem scored within seconds of each other to put the keep the momentum in favor of the Eagles and push their lead to double-digits. After entering a near six-minute scoreless drought, Mayers found the back of the net for the third time of the contest with 6:08 remaining in the half. Kyla Fricks and Garrett scored unassisted in the waning minutes of the half to send the Eagles into the halftime huddle up 13-0.

Coach Ashley Hughes made a change in goal for the final period, as she took out McDaniel for Kaylee Gerber. The Eagles found their first goal of the third period shortly after completing the first minute of game action when Mayers scored her fourth goal of the contest. Andrea Lorca joined in on the scoring action to push the BC lead to 15. Mayers followed with her fifth goal of the contest. Mayers, Overeem, Gardill, and Madelaine Godat each scored a goal in the final minutes of the third period to give the Eagles a 20-0 win after three periods of action.
