HARRISONBURG, Va. - The Bridgewater College women's lacrosse team took the crown in this year's edition of the Route 42 Rivalry, as they took down the EMU Royals 14-2 Wednesday evening. Despite their shutout streak being broken, the Eagles continue to ride a three-game win streak.

How it Happened

Bridgewater found the back of the net early in the contest on a goal from Paige Overeem with a little over a minute of game action elapsed. The Eagles had possessions over the following five minutes but failed to add to their early lead. That was until Andrea Lorca and Ella Price connected for a goal. EMU scored shortly after, stemming from a BC caused turnover to end the Bridgewater shutout streak. Bridgewater responded shortly after with a goal from Lorca. Ella Price scored the fourth BC goal of the opening period with 3:54 left on the clock to send the Eagles into the first break with a 4-1 advantage.

Bridgewater also got a quick start to the second quarter to spark a 5-0 quarter. Kyla Fricks scored first on an assist from Paige Mayers. Three minutes later, Overeem scored her second goal of the night on an assist from Ella Price. After a few minutes of scoreless lacrosse, Bridgewater netted three goals in the span of 1:36 to send the Eagles into the halftime huddle up 9-1.

Coach Ashley Hughes made a goalie change to start the second half, subbing out Maisen Jenkins for Addison McDaniel. Overeem secured a hat trick in the opening minute of the third quarter. After the opening goal, both teams were unable to score for seven minutes. Lauren Garrett ripped one with 7:05 remaining in the third period to push the BC lead to double digits. Overeem registered her fourth goal of the contest with 3:18 remaining in the stanza to give the Eagles a 12-1 lead going into the fourth.

The final quarter saw little scoring from both sides, as Bridgewater boasted a 2-1 advantage in that category. Taylor Price scored on an assist from Ella Price with 12:15 remaining in the game. EMU scored their second and final goal of the contest with 7:13 remaining in the period. Overeem scored her fifth and final goal with 5:18 remaining the cap the score at 14-2.

The EMU goal in the first quarter is the first goal the Eagles allowed since facing No. 6 Washington and Lee on Saturday, Apr. 4. Since then, the Eagles shut out Randolph and Sweet Briar in consecutive contests. The Eagles also saw their first shot attempt since the home contest against the nationally ranked W&L squad.

Bridgewater hosts Roanoke on Saturday, Apr. 18 at 12 p.m. The Eagles will celebrate their four seniors, Aubrey Beale, Olivia Lawrence, Madelaine Godat, and Livy Daniels before the beginning of the game. The senior day presentation and the game will be streamed live on FloCollege.
