Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Cook Records Career High 19 Saves in Loss to RV Roanoke

SALEM, Va. - The Bridgewater College men's lacrosse team fell to a RV Roanoke squad 12-5 Wednesday evening.

The Basics

Score: Bridgewater 5, RV Roanoke 12

Records: Bridgewater (9-6, 3-5 ODAC), RV Roanoke (10-4, 6-2 ODAC)

How it Happened

  • During the first quarter, the Maroons put the Bridgewater defense under fire, ringing 20 shots in the opening period. Despite this, the Eagles held the Maroons to only two goals in the opening period. The first came with 2:30 elapsed in the game, when Roanoke found the back of the net after missing their first two attempts of the contest. After fending off four more shots, Wyatt McNamara forced a turnover, which led to a Cooper Hann goal with 9:27 remaining in the opening stanza. Roanoke scored their second and final goal of the period with 7:01 remaining on the game clock. The Eagles only mustered one shot attempt compared to the RC eight over the remainder of the period, but were able to hold the score at 2-1 heading into the first break.

  • Roanoke caught fire in the opening minutes of the second quarter, as they went on a 3-0 run in the first three minutes of game action. RC ripped 15 shots in the second period and converted seven into goals over the course of the period, while the Eagles only managed three shot attempts. The surge from the Maroons sent them into the halftime break with a 9-1 advantage.

  • Both teams were unable to find the back of the net in the first 4:23 of game action in the second half. Roanoke broke the silence with a goal to push their lead to 10-1. Over the next eight minutes of game action, both teams held possession a handful of times and ripped several shot attempts, but neither were unable to score. Bridgewater broke the second scoring drought of the third stanza with a Connor Warren goal to prevent the Eagles from going down double digits. Roanoke scored again in the final minute of the frame to send the Maroons into the final period with an 11-2 advantage.

  • Despite ultimately losing the meeting between ODAC foes, Bridgewater ended the contest on a high note, winning the shots battle 14-12, and outscoring the Maroons 3-1.  Isaac Beals scored on a man up opportunity with 1:35 elapsed in the fourth quarter to cut into the Roanoke lead. After being unable to convert on several shot attempts, the Eagles surrendered possession to the Maroons, who tallied their final goal of the contest with 6:47 remaining. Bridgewater quickly rebounded with a goal from Beals directly off a faceoff win from Colt Short. After some unsuccessful shot attempts over the following minutes, Jake Wagner found the back of the net with 67 seconds left in the contest to cap the score at 5-12.

Game Notes

  • Ian Cook played all 60 minutes between the pipes for the Eagles. In a valiant effort, Cook recorded a career high 19 saves against an offense that was scorching at times during the contest. Cook also added six ground balls to his stat line.

  • Isaac Beals led the Eagles in scoring with two goals for two points.

  • Colt Short went 11-19 in the faceoff circle and collected nine ground balls.
